5-Amino-1MQ is a synthetic inhibitor of the enzyme NNMT (nicotinamide-N-methyltransferase), which participates in nicotinamide (vitamin B3) metabolism. NNMT blockade increases intracellular NAD⁺ levels, activates lipolysis, and improves energy metabolism. This is a laboratory-synthesized compound — it is not present in nature, so it is used as a precise tool for metabolic intervention.

In studies, 5-Amino-1MQ showed potential in accelerating fat oxidation (potential application in obesity), improving skin barrier and hydration, anti-inflammatory action, supporting insulin sensitivity, neuroprotection and cognitive functions.
